Tunisia possesses more mosaics of a variety and an ever equalled number than no other country.

The origin of the mosaic of pebbles is Mesopotamian but can also be Egyptian to a certain extent, or even Greek. Greek were perhaps the first ones to realize the ground of the indelible frescoes, a kind of eternal carpet.

Untill today, it is possible to supply reproductions of former mosaics to which skillful craftsmen strive to relieve and to modernize for ornamental manners.
