Until recently the complexities of crafting Roman Mosaic, using authentic methods and materials meant that this rich and immortal artform was a décor option only destined for a few, very wealthy cognoscenti. Mosaïca’s challenge and ambition was to master authentic techniques in crafting tesserae using the wealth of Tunisian natural stone and marbles, often from the same quarries used by Roman mosaic artisans nearly 2 millennia ago and to produce hand-crafted Roman Mosaic tiles, borders and tableaux, as a stunning new and versatile decor option both as durable as it was to the Romans, and which would be affordable for most of us.
Following a lengthy period of research and development, Tunisian and British partners established Mosaïca in July 1995. Mosaïca today is an independent Anglo-Tunisian Company with its entire production of Roman mosaic devoted to export. Its factory, near Sfax, in Southern Tunisia, employs around 127 persons, of whom a very large percentage are skilled female mosaicists.

Our first container of mosaic was shipped to Fired Earth, their Distributor in the United Kingdom at the end of 1995, and to our Distributor in the U.S.A. at the end of 1996. Since then Mosaïca have supplied Distributors in Australia, Belgium, Germany and Spain, as well as their traditional Distributors in the United Kingdom and the U.S.A., and who are now bringing Mosaic hand-crafted in Natural Stone to a wider discerning public.

Although Mosaïca’s principal production remains handcrafted natural stone mosaic in the form of tiles, borders and tableaux (see our main WebSite at http://www.mosaica.com.tn ), demand from our world-wide distributors and visitors to our website have led us to develop a unique and stunning range of mosaic table-tops in natural stone with a choice of Roman, Islamic and Modern designs. This has led further for us to develop accompanying wrought-iron and beechwood frames, which can be packed flat for airfreight. We are now able to offer our mosaic tables to be airfreighted directly to the consumer anywhere in the world.
