2010.08.09Monastir technological pole of textiles and clothing
The work to implement the technology hub of textiles and clothing from Monastir to continue the development of 216 hectares and the construction of 60,000 square meters, with investment estimated at 83 million dinars.
The first stage involves 50 hectares of industrial area with 32 hectares developed, including a party to create 25 lots.
In addition, studies on the second phase will start soon. They cover 50 hectares on which work should be completed in December 2010.

The textile and clothing sector has nearly 2,100 companies and employs over 200,000 people, with 83% of totally exporting firms, and 46% of them in partnership or 100% foreign owned.
The main nationalities of foreign companies operating in Tunisia in textile and clothing are France (365 companies), Italy (206), Belgium (121) and Germany (106).
The sector's exports amounted to 3.1 billion €. The European Union is the market of choice for Tunisia, with 96% of total exports of the sector. Tunisia is the fifth supplier to the U. E. France, Italy, Benelux, Germany and Great Britain are the main markets.
Tunisia exports include pants (30%), work clothes (7%), T-shirts (7%), sweaters (7%) and lingerie beach (12%).
Given the relative weakness of its "upstream textile, Tunisia must rely on imports to meet its needs fabric and supplies. These, mainly from Italy and France, $ 1.7 billion.
The sector has two preferential agreements: an association agreement with the EU and the Agadir Agreement.
